GOOD LOCAL JOBS

Lowestoft is at the heart of the UK’s Energy Coast. As investment in offshore wind, nuclear and clean energy continues to grow, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create skilled jobs and build a stronger local economy. My priority is making sure local people are the ones who benefit.

That is why I secured a commitment from Sizewell C to create 500 jobs for people in Lowestoft, helping to ensure one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects delivers real opportunities for our community. I have also backed work to connect more than 100 local businesses with the Sizewell C supply chain, so that local firms can benefit directly from the investment coming into our region.

Supporting local jobs means working hand in hand with the businesses creating them. I regularly visit employers of all sizes across the constituency, from small independent businesses to major manufacturers and energy companies, to hear first-hand about the opportunities they see and the challenges they face. Those conversations shape the work I do in Parliament and locally to champion investment, remove barriers to growth and promote Lowestoft as a place to invest and do business. I also work closely with organisations such as the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) to champion our area’s strengths and support the continued growth of the energy sector.

But creating jobs is only half the story. We also need to make sure local people have the skills, confidence and support to take them.

That is why I brought together employers, East Coast College, the NHS, the Department for Work and Pensions, Suffolk Police, Sizewell C, the voluntary sector and many other partners to launch the East Coast Partnership as part of the national Coastal Navigators Network. Together, we are working to create 500 jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities, while breaking down the barriers that can stop people getting into work.

I have also worked closely with East Coast College, local schools, employers and training providers to strengthen the link between education and industry. By supporting practical, hands-on training and creating clearer routes into employment, we can equip people with the skills employers are looking for and give more young people the confidence to build successful careers here in Lowestoft.

Lowestoft has enormous potential. I will keep working with local businesses, education providers, Government and community partners to secure the investment, jobs and opportunities that will help our area thrive for generations to come.
