Improved bus and rail connections introduced for Lowestoft

🚍 Really positive news for Lowestoft transport connectivity today.

From now on, the 99 and X1 bus services will run via Lowestoft railway station, making it far easier for residents and visitors to connect directly between rail and bus services.

That means improved links from the station to:

πŸ“ Southwold

πŸ“ Kessingland

πŸ“ Africa Alive

πŸ“ Pleasurewood Hills

πŸ“ Hopton

πŸ“ Gorleston

πŸ“ Great Yarmouth

…and more.

This is exactly the kind of joined-up transport improvement many people have been calling for, and it builds on the discussions we had at the Lowestoft Bus Summit earlier this year, where better integration between rail and bus services was raised repeatedly by residents, businesses and transport groups.

I also recently wrote jointly to First Bus and Suffolk County Council following the summit to push for practical improvements to local connectivity and to make the case for better integrated public transport across our coastal communities.

This has taken a huge amount of hard work behind the scenes from a number of local partners over a long period of time, and I particularly want to thank:

  • The Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership

  • East Suffolk Travel Association

  • Lowestoft Town Council

  • Greater Anglia

  • First Bus

  • Suffolk County Council

  • and everyone else involved in helping make this happen.

This is a really important step towards the better connected, more integrated transport network that Lowestoft deserves.

There is still much more to do, especially around evening services and wider connectivity, but this is genuine progress and very welcome news for the town and surrounding communities.
