Royal Mail Lowestoft Festive Visit

12th December 2024

With Christmas fast approaching, I had the pleasure of visiting the hardworking posties at the Lowestoft Delivery Office to see firsthand what it takes to keep the festive season running smoothly. As the MP for Lowestoft, I wanted to show my support for the dedicated Royal Mail staff who work tirelessly to deliver letters and parcels during this incredibly busy period.

During the festive season, the number of parcels and letters passing through Royal Mail doubles as people send Christmas cards and shop for gifts online. To manage this surge, the Lowestoft Delivery Office has brought in four extra vehicles to help ensure everything reaches its destination on time.

While visiting the delivery office, I had the chance to meet the team and learn more about the immense effort that goes into making Christmas deliveries happen. Peter Harper, the lead customer operations manager for Lowestoft, showed me how the team is gearing up for their peak period. He emphasised that they are pulling out all the stops to ensure customers receive their parcels and cards in time for the big day.

Royal Mail is an iconic part of Christmas in the UK – it wouldn’t be the same without our posties. I’ve got an enormous appreciation for what they do after seeing how the operation works on the inside.

To help manage the Christmas rush, Royal Mail has recruited 16,000 temporary workers to support its 85,000 posties. It’s clear that a huge amount of effort goes into making sure our letters and parcels arrive on time, and I’m incredibly grateful for the role these workers play in bringing a little magic to the holiday season.

A big thank you to all the staff at Lowestoft Delivery Office and across the country for their commitment and hard work during this busy time. Your efforts are truly appreciated!
