BECCLES NORTHGATE SITE MEETING

Residents have raised concerns with me about speeding and road safety along Northgate in Beccles, and over the summer I joined a multi-agency site meeting to see the issues first-hand and look at what practical action could be taken.

The meeting brought together local councillors, Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Highways, Suffolk Police and First Bus, giving us the opportunity to look closely at the particular challenges along Northgate and consider options for improving safety.

Among the potential next steps discussed was the installation of a Speed Indicator Device (SID), which displays the speed of approaching vehicles, alongside further speed and traffic monitoring to build a clearer picture of vehicle speeds and movements along the road.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their experiences with me. I’ll be following up on the actions discussed and continuing to push for practical improvements to make Northgate safer for residents and everyone who uses it.
