Waste Collection Service STATEMENT

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been contacted by many residents about problems with the rollout of East Suffolk District Council’s new Better Recycling waste collection service.

I know how frustrating this has been. Residents have told me about repeated missed collections, bins left unemptied for weeks, and the unpleasant impact this has had on households and neighbourhoods.

Where residents have contacted me about these issues, I’ve been taking up individual cases while also pressing the Council to address the wider problems with the rollout. I’ll continue to do so until the service is operating to the standard residents rightly expect.

In the meantime, I’ve received the following advice from the Council:

  • Food waste collections: If your food waste collection is missed, the Council advises there is no need to report it separately, as it is working through missed collections as part of the rollout.

  • General waste and recycling: If your general waste, recycling or paper and card collections are missed, please report them through the Council’s online reporting system so a return collection can be arranged.

  • New bins: If you are still waiting for your new bins, please report this using the Council’s online bin delivery form.

If you’re experiencing problems, please make sure you report them through the Council’s online reporting system in the first instance. If the issue remains unresolved, I’d also encourage you to contact your local East Suffolk district councillor, who can take the matter up on your behalf.

If you’ve already reported the problem, raised it with your district councillor, and you’re still not getting anywhere, please do get in touch with me and my office so we can follow up your case.
