VISITING ESSEX AND SUFFOLK WATER BARSHAM SITE

I recently visited Essex and Suffolk Water new works at Barsham to see the major investment being made in our local water infrastructure.

It was genuinely fascinating to see how water is processed before it reaches our homes and businesses, and to understand the scale of the work that goes into keeping local supplies safe and reliable.

This £52.1 million project will improve the resilience and quality of supply for around 75,000 customers across Beccles, Bungay, Lowestoft, Southwold and the surrounding areas. It includes a new covered reservoir which will hold 20 million litres of water, alongside new pumps, filters, tanks and treatment equipment.

Importantly, this investment will also help reduce the need to take water from the River Waveney, supporting local supplies while helping to protect one of our most important natural assets.

Reliable water infrastructure is something many of us do not often see, but we all depend on it every day. Thank you to the team at Essex & Suffolk Water for showing me around and explaining the work taking place.
