CallING for Better Street Cleaning in Lowestoft

This old photo of Station Square is a reminder of what Lowestoft can be at its best: proud, bustling and properly looked after. It shows a town centre people could feel good about, and that is exactly why I get so frustrated by the lack of proper street cleaning on London Road North and across the wider town centre.

Because this is about more than appearances. It is about whether people feel welcome in their own town. It is about whether older people, families and visitors want to come in, stay a while, and spend money in local shops. It is about whether the very first impression someone gets of Lowestoft is a place that feels cared for, or one covered in bird mess, grime and dirty shop fronts.

There is real change coming. We now have £20 million through Pride in Place, and alongside that there is progress on the Town Hall, the Cultural Quarter, and the former Post Office transformation, all important projects for Lowestoft’s future. But those bigger projects will only mean something if we get the basics right too.

Lowestoft deserves ambition, yes, but it also deserves pride, standards and proper day-to-day care. We should not accept a town centre that feels neglected. We should expect better, and I will keep pushing until we get it.
