ATTENDING A SCREENING ON THE DANGERS OF ONLINE GROOMING AND EXPLOITATION
Last night I attended this harrowing but important screening hosted by Jess Phillips MP of The Com produced by Sky which explored the growing issue of children who are groomed by other children into “com” networks.
You can watch the documentary and read the write up here (NB this contains themes of self harm and sexual harm): https://news.sky.com/story/the-com-a-sky-news-investigation-into-violent-network-targeting-children-to-be-screened-in-parliament-13599571?fbclid=IwY2xjawVFoqtleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mBWJyaWQRMXI4N2V4Ym8ycm9FM2NWUlhzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEeNoSTbmRL0loDTUQ_wraFddNte6qlxQgAyuqky0ahjb0jPbbIsF6HMbfIqiw_aem_29K1Q7nmoztpR08HnxH3Dg
In particular parents need to know which games and groups their children are joining on Roblox and be aware that private messaging platforms such as Discord and Telegram are being used to organise deeply harmful activity.
The Government is taking action which will help such as banning children from taking, receiving or sending nude images and introducing new rules for children accessing social media in spring next year. But there is clearly much more we need to be doing to stop our children being drawn into nihilistic and violent sub cultures.
