New earlier and later trains for our area from this week
🚂 I am delighted that Greater Anglia have agreed to bring in new earlier and later trains for our area from this week!
The new later train from Lowestoft to Beccles is just one of many improvements.
Other important changes include:
🔶 A new 06.17 Ipswich to Lowestoft train (Mondays to Fridays)
🔶 A later 23:00 Beccles to Lowestoft train (Mondays to Saturdays)
🔶 New trains to and from Stansted Airport. The 06:34 from Lowestoft on a Saturday will now run through to the Airport and the 20:46 from the Airport will run through to Lowestoft on Mondays to Saturdays
🔶 New trains to Cambridge. 05:38 and 06:34 trains from Lowestoft will run through to Cambridge (Mondays to Fridays)
Back in December 2024, I met with Greater Anglia alongside East Suffolk Travel Association, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, and East Coast College in a meeting hosted by East Suffolk Council to make the case for earlier and later trains on the Ipswich to Lowestoft line in particular and I want to pay tribute to Greater Anglia’s collaborative approach in working with me and partners on this and other issues.
These improvement to the timetable will help students get to college, commuters get to and from work, and holiday-makers get to and from the airport. It will also make getting to Lowestoft and Beccles (and staying later) easier for visitors, which will drive business to our pubs, restaurants, and theatres.
I will keep working with Greater Anglia and other local partners to:
Help create a business case for half-hourly services
Improve Lowestoft Station
Explore options for a direct Lowestoft to London service
