KNIFE CRIME HOMICIDES AT LOWEST LEVEL IN 35 YEARS

Knife-related homicides are now at their lowest level in 35 years after falling by 26% since Labour entered Government in July 2024.

More than 15,000 knives and swords have been taken off the streets through the Government’s surrender drive in the past year – and knife crime overall has been reduced by 11% since the general election.

This represents good progress – but more will be done to meet the Government’s commitment to halve knife crime by 2034, including by increasing police activity in knife crime hotspots, installing CCTV, and using live facial recognition software.

Initiatives such as Young Futures Hubs alongside mentoring and targeted support for at-risk children will also help to stop young people from ever picking up a weapon in the first place.
