YOUTH HUB FOR NORTH LOWESTOFT

Since 2010, 29 youth centres across Suffolk have closed as youth services across the county have steadily been reduced. That loss has been felt particularly acutely in communities like North Lowestoft, where many residents still remember the closure of facilities such as Boston Lodge and the gradual disappearance of visible, accessible youth provision locally.

At the same time, concerns around antisocial behaviour, isolation, mental health and lack of opportunities for young people have only grown. I regularly hear from parents, schools and residents who want to see greater investment in positive opportunities and safe spaces for young people in North Lowestoft.

Last December, the government announced a new £500 million investment programme aimed at rebuilding youth services and facilities across the country. I believe North Lowestoft should be part of that conversation, and I am calling on Suffolk County Council to work with local organisations, residents and young people to submit a bid and help deliver a modern youth hub for North Lowestoft.
